Big Bend Routes
·
The routes are now posted on the website.
Riding groups
·
Of course we’ll be dividing our 33 bikes into
smaller groups for safety and convenience.
·
If you have a group of friends with whom you
like to ride, please reply to this email with the members in your group. I’ll
prearrange your group for our mutual convenience.
·
Otherwise, we’ll begin staging into groups
before we depart on Thursday morning.
·
By slightly staggering our departure times,
we’ll experience more manageable fuel and restroom stops.
Friday/Saturday Ride Staging
·
Friday and Saturday rides will gather, stage and
depart from the Indian Lodge parking area.
·
Limpia guests arrive at the Indian Lodge in time
for and 8:00 AM departure.
·
Saturday departure is 7:30 AM
Your bike:
·
Tires – the round trip will be close to 1500
miles – so have plenty of rubber on the road.
·
Maintenance and safety items – oil, brakes, etc.
·
Roadside repair items – extra bulbs, wrenches, device
batteries, adapters, etc.
·
Tire repair kit. If you use the gummy tire
insert ropes, are they current? (within the last year at least)
·
While there is great benefit and safety in
numbers, repair facilities in this neck of the woods are sparse.
The weather:
·
The Fort Davis area has been sunny and in the
high 50’s 60’s and 70’s. It is Texas, however and can change in a heartbeat.
Prepare for everything.
·
The ride out and back can also present some
chilly temps and wind. Gerbings are welcome.
Fuel
·
The route is planned to accommodate all bike
fuel tanks levels. The lowest range listed is 150 miles. That is well within our
scheduled fuel stops.
·
Many riders have a motto regardless of fuel
capacity and range: “I never pass gas!” It’s worth considering.
Water
Carry some on your bike – you’ll likely be glad.
McDonald Observatory
·
If you have an interest in the observatory, it is very
near Fort Davis.
·
You may wish to take a tour on Friday while some
riders do the loop.
·
Or an evening starparty if available Thursday or
Friday night.
·
Here’s the website for details of McDonald
