Discover Boquilas, Mexico

Today we got an email from Steve Sandler that you can walk (or ride a burro) to Mexico while you are down in Big Bend.

Here is the website for more information http://discoverboquillas.wordpress.com

Terri Baker who lives in Big Bend highly recommends doing this and here is her email:

"You have these options: Wade across the river or pay $5.00 round trip for a short boat ride. Then you have the option of walking into town, hiring a pickup ride or a donkey ride. Those are also $5.00 round trip. We (one of my girlfriends from high school) also acquired a guide for the entire time. He took us around town. We met his family, toured the school and shops and also, sat in a back corner of the restaurant while we ate tacos and drank our beers. He waited for us while we shopped. We ended up tipping him about $20.00 - and he really only charged us $5 each. But we felt like we got the grand tour! Of course the first place he took us was to customs. It was hot and took about 15 mins.

All in all please go, if you can. They appreciate American dollars and are so very gracias to have us visit.

Lily is the lady who owns the taco diner where we ate. Her father started the diner years ago and suffered much loss when the border was closed. He did not live to see the border open back up. If anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

Also - last year in May, when we crossed they had no refrigeration so they did not sell meat of any kind. At that time a group from Terlingua was working on getting them solar panels so,they could keep refrig. Items. Without meat - I can tell you those were the best tacos I have ever eaten! I wish I had gotten some for,the road!

Sorry to go on and on but it's really worth the visit! "
